The 2011 Committee invites interested members to consider the following positions:
Junior Activities Chairperson (JAC) and Secretary.
Two or three keen people to work with the Age Managers to ensure that Sunday training runs smoothly, Age Managers are on top of awards, keep on top of communications and share with the Junior members.
Junior Team Manager.
Work with Age Managers to ensure competitors are ready and nominated for their events at the carnivals. Attend Team Manager meetings at the start of each carnival and feedback to Age Managers. Be on the beach for carnivals and represent the club if there are any concerns on the beach at carnivals.
As you will note from the season so far the club survives solely on the generousity of parents and associates in offering their help and assistance. The successful applicant will have the full support of the committee.
If you have any questions about any of these positions please approach one of the committee members.
Whilst most of us enjoyed the off season building up our carbo levels for the upcoming season a few hardy Ellis members doned their caps and represented us at the three big carnivals on the surf calender – State Seniors, Nationals (‘Aussies’) and the Arafura Games.
1. State Senior Surf Championships – Kurrawa Beach
Jason Gosley made the final in the surf swim. Kirriena Raymond did the big four – ironwoman, swim, board and tube. Big sister Tiarrn competed in three events and made the final in the both the ironwoman and the swim. If Dave Chapman was a name dropper he’d tell you he’s raced against Cain & Shannon Eckstein and Ky Hurst but he’s not, so he won’t. Dave’s best result was 4th in the 2km beach run although he competed well in the swim and board.
All competiotors performed well in such tough conditions.
2. National ‘Aussies’Surf Championships – Kurrawa Beach
The tricky trio backed up a week later to reperesent the club at the National Championships. Kirriena competed up in age with the U15′s and made a semi in the swim and got through to the 2nd round on the board. The highlights for Tiarrn were making the swim final and her 5th placing in the final of the tube.
3. Arafura Games – Darwin
Tiarn teamed up with Tessa Jackson to represent Qld Country for the pool rescue and open events. The competing international teams included Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan and Indonesia – they left the Arafura Games with a medal haul that cost them in extra baggage – the highlight was their gold in the 4 x 50 medley pool rescue.
Tiarrn says that all the hard work needed for country selection was seriously worth it as the Games were such a highlight.
